Shofar is a traditional Jewish musical instrument used in all the important religious rituals, especially the Rosh HaShana. Though the instrument can be made from the horns of any animal from the Bovidae family, Ram’s Horn Shofars are the most popular. These small sized Shofars are also the ones most steeped in the ancient Jewish history. In fact, ram’s horn Shofar was used in the biblical times to call the armies together for an impending battle.
The sound of a ram’s horn Shofar can be altered only with the skill of the blower and no other mechanism of tuning the instrument is available. Yet, it is blown in four different ways. The purpose of the different sounds is to evoke the divine, the spiritual in the listener and encourage them to atone for their ill deeds.
Shofar is available for sale in both types of finish: natural and polished. They also come engraved with Jewish religious symbols.
